The Perils of Having a Yard Sale

We have been SO busy lately! Between planning our wedding bash and working, we also coordinated a block yard sale this past Saturday. This was the perfect excuse to clean some junk out and to make a little extra cash to put in the “wedding bash fund”. It went well, we made close to $200 which was exciting considering we would’ve just given everything away to the Goodwill. The day was fun spent chatting with neighbors and friends.

It was kind of a bummer when 2 unfortunate things happened to me. #1: I got bit by some kind of insect that hates me, and #2: Somebody stole my watch from the yard sale.

#1: I wouldn’t even bring this up, but I got bit all over my legs, and one spot in particular on my left ankle began to swell up and hurt like heck. I actually just got back from the doctor now – he lanced my bite, put me on two different antibiotics, and sent a culture to the lab to figure out what kind of venom was in my body. Yuck. (I won’t include pictures of this, for your sake.)

#2: Someone stole my watch, that I was selling, at my yard sale. WTF? I was kind of proud of myself too. It was an awesome PUMA watch that I decided to sell for no less than $10, because  I figured if I didn’t sell it I would just keep it. I have tons of watches and never wear that one anymore, but seeing as how I sell EVERYTHING else for $0.50 to $1, I was kind of proud of myself for sticking to my guns and not selling to buyers who wanted to negotiate with me. Then, a few hours in, I noticed my watch had disappeared. Really buddy, did you REALLY just steal a watch that was sitting next to my old Beavis keychain at a YARD SALE? Well then, you deserve whatever karma comes to bite you…

Beavis keychain SOLD for $0.50!

Not a single gram of…..shall be given today

Please excuse the language on the following image. But I love it so much. Hope y’all are not offended by this one. I got it from Jennifer Pastiloff’s Facebook Page – she is my new obsession. I took her yoga flow class last night and fell in love with her energy and teaching style. Check her out if you live in the Los Angeles, she teaches all around town!! Her blog can also be found here.

Another Monday Video – Baby & Vacuum

Got this from The Daily What, LOVE IT! Makes me smile. This baby can’t get over how funny the vacuum is. It kind of reminds me of my dog Bella, except Bella is scared to death of the vacuum.

Enjoy!

Kentucky Lovin’

Whew, what a whirlwind of a wonderful weekend! My fiancé and I went to Kentucky for the weekend to spend time with his family and celebrate our recent engagement. I have been to Kentucky many times now, but this was the first time I’ve visited during the spring, and also the first time I was able to go to Keeneland. The spring is absolutely beautiful – with dogwoods blooming all over, birds chirping and singing in the trees, and everyone in a good mood because of the lovely weather.

For those of you who don’t know what Keeneland is, it’s a famous horse racing track located in Lexington, Kentucky. As a matter of fact, this year it was recognized for its 4th consecutive year for being the number one rated Thoroughbred racetrack in North America. They hold races there in April and October each year, and it seems to me that Keeneland is much more popular with people who are born and raised in Kentucky than is the Kentucky Derby. Here’s a pic of the perfect day we went out there:

We partied with the family, and had a fun Easter lunch celebration as well. One of my sister-in-laws has the CUTEST 2 year old dog ever, so naturally I had to share some pics of lil’ Murphy boy:

Nothing a little baked oatmeal treat won’t fix…

So…I’ve been really missing cooking up fun and exciting dishes this week because of a disaster I had on Monday morning. I came home from an early morning client to pour myself some coffee, and was itching to slice a piece off my Brioche Loaf #2, when I gave my thumb a flat-top. I didn’t know what happened until it happened. Luckily, the bleeding slowed eventually and it was clear that the wound wasn’t deep enough to require stitches. My fiancé helped me clean it out and bandage it and it has been healing ever since, but hurting the top of your thumb isn’t conducive to working in the kitchen. The only good thing is that it also isn’t conducive to washing dishes 😉

Of course I had to injure the thumb on the hand with my new bling:

Anyway, enough with the self pity. I mostly just wanted to share this so you guys would know that I’m not just being a lazy bum…

My blogger friend over at Creative Noshing posted an awesome Baked Cranberry Oatmeal recipe a little while ago, and it seemed harmless enough for me to make. It turned out AMAZING. Go, go check out the recipe. It didn’t make very much though, so I will be making this again here shortly, but I’ll probably be quadrupling the recipe (and maybe adding a couple more ingredients, stay tuned). Yes, I’ll admit it, this portion size just isn’t enough to feed Mambo. But still, I had it this morning with my greek yogurt & agave and it made me so happy.

Thank you Creative Noshing! Turned out YUMMY!!

I Feel Big

“When I look up at the night sky, and I know that, yes, we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the universe is in us. When I reflect on that fact, I look up – many people feel small, because they’re small and the universe is big – but I feel big, because my atoms came from those stars. There’s a level of connectivity and that’s really what you want in life, you want to feel connected! You want to feel relevant, you want to feel like you’re a participant in the goings on of activities and events around you – and that’s precisely what we are, just by being alive.”

-Neil deGrasse Tyson
